Why it happens

The root cause — in plain English.

Brands age unevenly. The logo might still work, but type and photography date a brand faster than any single asset — Helvetica feels modern, Trajan feels 2008, smiling-stock-photography feels 2014. Couple that with a colour system built before mobile dark-mode existed and zero motion language, and the brand reads as "the past" even if the work is fresh. The fix is rarely a logo redraw; it's a system refresh.
How we diagnose it

The first three things we check.

We audit five layers: logo (lockup, scaling, monochrome variant), type (does the typeface read modern at body sizes?), colour (does the palette work in dark UI? on screen vs print?), photography (original vs stock?), motion (any micro-interactions and transitions defined?). Most clients have a strong logo and three or four broken layers — we rebuild a coherent system inside 4-6 weeks without forcing a full rebrand.
